Confidence in accuracy and understanding by voice-activated personal assistants such as Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant will be needed before they become embedded in the daily lives of everyone but the younger generations are already conversational AI natives.
The market leaders have announced they are teaming up to make smart home products compatible across the board which will be a relief to consumers and a clear indication of how important the tech giants see voice-controlled technology.
OMG it’s 5G
Marketing will a huge beneficiary of the 5G era. With greater capability, the imagination will be the only limit in reaching and engaging with consumers.
Download speeds are set to be up to 20 times higher than at present. The potential for virtual reality and internet of things to provide super-personalised immersive content and experiences is exponential.
The increased connectivity will bring advances in manufacturing, efficiencies in homes and businesses, leaps in innovation we can only imagine at the moment but will become part of our everyday life in the near future.
It’s in the game
It is what your parents always worried about: too much time playing online rather than outside. Well, perhaps they can calm down a bit now student gamers are winning scholarships to top US universities – just like actual sports stars.
Over 1.2m people claim to watch esports in this country alone, according to Kantar. And that level of numbers cannot be ignored.
2020 is predicted to be the year established ‘analogue’ sports make the move into esports with football clubs establishing their own esports teams and so on. The marketing game will be being played with a whole new team of influencers.
Brands take a stand
Over the last year or so, we’ve seen Nike take a stand on racism and sexism and Gillette on toxic masculinity. Greta Thunberg, the controversial environmental-campaigning teen, has been named Time magazine’s Person of the Year 2019.
Activism is cool again and has become a go-to marketing tool. In 2020 brands need to be authentic and run their activism throughout their organisation, putting their slogans into their company values not just their adverts. The much-maligned yet ever-desirable millennial consumer is astute and a harsh critic of perceived hypocrisy.
